BECOME A VOLUNTEER

 

We recruit interns on quarterly basis from colleges and universities. Interested people can submit applications for consideration. Students or scholars pursuing degrees, and diplomas Certificates in Sociology, Community development and health, Computer Science, Psychology, Architecture and urban development shall have added advantage.
 

INTERNS

 
Interns shall be admitted and assigned duties based on their areas of learning she/he shall be under a Programe officer. The internship period shall not exceed three months.
 

VOLUNTEER

 
Is defined as uncoerced and unremunerated person who by conviction is willing to put his/her expertise in service. This is a person who enters into, or offers for any service of his free will. When in service, will comply with all regulations of the organization like any other employee.
 

BEING A VOLUNTEER OR AN INTERN AT GRASSROOTS TRUST

 
Grassroots Trust is a dynamic, progressive organization out to support and advance the course of the poor in Kenya. However; it recognizes that it may have capacity limitations or increased demand for services that its staff’s capacity may not cope with. It is in this regard that continuously; Grassroots Trust will always admit people it may feel have the capacity that it does not have in order to bridge this gap. Volunteers or Interns come with their own experiences/knowledge/ and expertise necessary to refresh and reinvigorate the organization.
 

TIMING

 
Voluntary service will always go up to the end of the task for which the need for volunteering arose. An intern on the other hand shall be admitted for a period not exceeding three months.
 

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

 
Before recruitment, there shall be internal consultations among the program officers to build consensus on the need for such capacity coming in.

SUPPORT/BENEFITS TO THE VOLUNTEERS/INTERNS

Grassroots Trust for Community Organization in Kenya has designed several volunteering models to enable individuals to get involved in the community despite their time constraints. Below are some of the benefits that accrue to the Volunteers.

    • Time for talk/knowledge sharing
    • Link to training/conference/meetings/exchange visits and seminars
    • Access to library
    • Access to computers, Telephone and internet
    • Reimbursements to authorized payments made on purchases or costs incurred in the interest of the organization
    • Recommendation letter on completion of volunteership/internship assignments
    • During the period of engagement, the Trust shall not pay salaries or allowances to the interns. However, a stipend shall be paid to the interns every month at rates as approved by management from time to time.
    • When joining the team for work outside the work station, interns shall be paid subsistence allowance at rates approved by management from time to time.
    • An intern may not be sent to the field without the approval of the departmental head.
